Pioneer Investors – Omantel and Ericsson signed a Memorandum of Understanding to promote technological innovation initiatives through Omantel Innovation Labs. Omantel Innovation Labs was introduced in July 2021 as one of the main initiatives launched by Omantel to benefit from the company’s expertise and partnerships for contributing to the realization of Oman Vision 2040 and promote innovation and entrepreneurship in new and emerging technologies. The labs, which set up on an area of 1,100 square meters at Omantel’s headquarters in Muscat Governorate, focus on developing entrepreneurship skills among young people and accelerating the growth of emerging technology companies in the Sultanate across five technology sectors: 5G, Internet of Things, cybersecurity, the concept of subscriber experience and big data.
By the common vision of entrepreneurship community contribution, this MOU aims to achieve the goals of Oman Vision 2040. moreover, Omantel and Ericsson will work together to support digital transformation and innovation in the Sultanate by expanding the capabilities of the business sector through 5G and Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
Using Omantel’s Innovation Labs as a platform, Ericsson’s Regional Innovation Center and local, regional, and international experts will provide required guidance to startups and innovators in the Sultanate. Ericsson and Omantel will also host multiple activities to bring together innovators to develop technology solutions in line with Oman’s Vision 2040.
Commenting on this, Talal bin Saeed Al Maamari, CEO of Omantel, said: “We are committed to providing Omani entrepreneurs with the appropriate tools to develop their skills by using new technologies and contribute to meeting their needs. This cooperation will open new doors for innovators and entrepreneurs in the field of technology throughout the Sultanate and will focus on many technical areas to advance fifth-generation technology and innovation in the Sultanate and contribute to achieving the goals of Oman Vision 2040”
On the Ericsson side, Dr. Abdullah Al Balushi, President of Ericsson Oman, said: “We expect this cooperation with Omantel to accelerate the digital transformation process. At the same time, we are working to support Omantel’s efforts to help innovators and entrepreneurs grow through our expertise in 5G technology, which offers promising talents in the Sultanate of Oman an opportunity to build on the skills they possess to contribute to achieving the goals of Oman Vision 2040. We have many activities designed to effectively achieve the goals set and look forward to working together to promote innovation and achieve common interests”.
